What is a concussion?
A “concussion” is the medical word for a mild traumatic brain injury. Concussions can happen after hitting your head or by a hit to the body that causes a rapid movement of the head and brain.
Don’t be fooled – Even though we call them “mild” traumatic brain injuries, they can still cause major health problems and should be taken seriously.

Is it true that if you didn’t get knocked, then it’s not a concussion?
Nope! Some concussions cause you to lose consciousness (“knock you out”) but most do not.

We are excited to welcome Mark Lauteren to our team here at MLCHC! Mark brings an impressive blend of knowledge and experience in both IT and healthcare, having graduated with a BS in computer science from San Diego State University and earning an MBA from the same institution.

Mark is passionate about MLCHC's mission of providing compassionate, high-quality primary health services to our community. He is impressed with the culture of care and dedication that permeates through the entire organization.

Debra is a proud graduate of the University of Florida with both an undergraduate and a Doctor of Dental Medicine. She further honed her skills at a General Practice Residency at the VA Hospital. When away from her practice, Debra loves spending quality time with her husband, three children, and grandson.

Vaping: The Facts
The bottom line: Vaping is NOT safe, especially for youth.

What is a vape?
Vaping devices (also known as “vapes” and “vape pens”) are electronic cigarettes, or e-cigarettes. These are battery-powered devices that heat up a special liquid into an aerosol cloud of chemicals that is inhaled.

Isn’t it just water vapor?
NO. The aerosol produced by vapes is not water vapor, and it is NOT harmless.

Deja believes that we are all deserving of the opportunity for change and healing. She hopes to make those who she is building a therapeutic relationship with, feel heard and seen. As Carl Jung states, “Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.” Deja holds this phrase true in her behavioral health approach because it outlines how our thoughts and feelings translate to our behaviors. If we are given the opportunity and have the willingness to implement behavioral changes, we can be that better version of ourselves.
